ANIMATION @ THE PORTAGE!

Back in June of 2007, I had the honor to design a series of posters for CHEWBONE ANIMATION Chicago, to promote their summer screening at the Portage Theater. The screening featured 8 short independent films all done by Chicago film makers and animators.
The series of poster displayed a screen shot of each film and the title, in addition to that there is a combined poster as the final promotion to the entire screening.
The films consisted of traditional hand drawn animation, some stop motion, hand cut-outs, live action combined with animation to computer 3D animation.
Thanks and congratulations again to all these fine film makers!

BOTNIK!

"BOTNIK!"- Is an award winning animated short directed by Jackie Smessaert Brennan, and produced by Calabash Animation Chicago.
I took wonderful images from the film to create a series of postcard invitations and various promotional materials. Giving this hilarious 12 minute animated short an eerie retro look of the horror movies from the 1940's and 50's.
"Botnik!" has been screened throughout the United State and Canada, in various film festivals including the Chicago International Film Festival 2008 , Palm Springs, Vancouver.
"Botnik!" is currently circulating the festival circuit, perhaps coming soon to a festival near you!

GREETING CARDS

The "GOOGLEY EYE FAMILY" were a series of Greeting Cards produced by an independent greeting card company: "Smart Alex". The main idea for these characters was to have one or more of the funny googley eye attached to the front of the greeting.

Once in a while a idea or occasion will come to mind where I get use my creative skills for a greeting such as a "GOTH WEDDING CARD" I designed for an artsy couple who enjoy dark humor and dark clothing.

As for my own wedding last fall, I created the theme around idea from Apple's "i"-products. Not only because of its popularity, but from our actual relationship, since my wife and I shared a long distance relationship while we were dating, most of our communication depended on the internet using the iMac, iPhone, sharing love songs on the iPod and so on.
Although the images were used from various sources and Apple, I placed them together play on the "i"dea. I think it's short and sweet and clear to the audience. That was basically the design of our wedding invitation with the interior of the card stating and celebrating: "In a marriage, the "i"s become the Wii" - again word play with another popular "i"tem.

WEBSITES

"SUPER POOCHIE"

These Websites were created for Tiger Electronic Toys, the people who first brought you the interactive toy; "Furby" . This is "Poochie" an electronic dog who can record your commands and can be turned on via voice activation.
This is Flash website that provide an online manual, flash games, animated webisodes with sound effects and music. Later the Poochie family grew by adding characters as "MEOW-CHI" (a cat) and "CHIRP-CHI" (a bird). All these short lived fun toys were also featured in "Happy Meal"- promos.

Along with the Furby and Poochie, Tiger Electronicsalso produced a variety of hand held games. This one they teamed up with Hasbro called "Lights Out 2000". This is a small electronic game where the winner can post their highest scores on the website, in order to keep track on how well they are doing each time, the player can create a funny name and choose one of the many animated icons to represent themselves.

"Battle Bots" was the American version of a popular British show: "Robot Wars"- home made robots were put to the task to destroy each other every week on this manly TV show. This site again is a result of Tiger Electronics teaming up Hasbro to create a mini kid friendly version of these Robot Warriors.
This again was an all flash site, consisted with a short flash splash opening and if you roll over certain elements they animate with sound.

The following are concept art for a couple of small local businesses. "Brent Books" is a chain of bookstores in the Chicago area and "TMI Triangle Marketing Inc." is a wholesaler that targets the small discount stores, such as the local "Family Dollar" type of variety shops.
Finally "Lester Lampert" sounding a lot like "Chester Cheetah" is a Jeweler in Highland Park, Illinois. They played with idea of using a leopard icon for a website to update and promote their diamond collection.
